Jeannette Goss

Jeannette Goss, 80, a lifetime Morgan County resident and faithful servant of God, entered eternal rest peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side on Monday, October 5, 2026.Jeannette was born on Sunday, July 28, 1946, in Martinsville, Indiana, to the late Cecil Andrew and Lucille Helen (Curtis) Whaley. She was a proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the Class of 1964. Jeannette continued her education at Marion College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, before attending Indiana University and earning her master’s degree.Jeannette dedicated her entire teaching career to educating children at Centerton School in Martinsville. She taught fifth grade for 33 years before retiring in 2001. Alongside her teaching career, she also worked at Martinsville Kroger and frequently tutored students, always finding ways to encourage and help children succeed. Her love and devotion to teaching and children were evident throughout her life. She was nominated six times by her students for the Who’s Who in America award, a testament to the lasting impact she made on the lives of those she taught.Jeannette was an active member of Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Martinsville. A woman of deep and abiding faith in the Lord, she cherished participating in church activities and spending time with her church family. In her own words, after growing up in the Evangelical Methodist Church, Jeannette dedicated her life fully to the Lord in 2011.Outside of her work and church, Jeannette found great joy in gardening and yard work, taking tremendous pride in her beautifully maintained yard. She also enjoyed quilting and cross-stitching, creating beautiful works with the same care and patience she brought to all that she did, including her tremendous love and devotion to her family.Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory and celebrate her life include her two brothers, Kevin Bradley Whaley (Sherri) of Martinsville and Timothy Ray Whaley (Beth) of Cuba, Indiana; two sisters, Donna Sue Minks (Ron) and Beverly Ann McKee (Ron), both of Martinsville; her aunt, Eunice Harsin of Martinsville; nieces and nephews, Teresa Houchin, Steve Knieper, Scott Whaley (Kara), Ryan McKee (Amanda), Tammy Allender (Craig), and Logan, Curtis, and Aubree Whaley; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Florence Yvonne Knieper; brother, Keith Whaley; nephew, Brandon Whaley; and great-niece, Meredith Knieper.Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to services on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Emmanuel Apostolic Church, 1320 Morton Ave., Martinsville, Indiana. Pastor Jonathon Bailey will officiate a service celebrating Jeannette’s life at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. She will be laid to rest at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.While morning her loss, we rejoice knowing she is finally home with the Lord she loved so dearly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Apostolic Church Missions or Building Fund, 1320 Morton Ave., Martinsville, IN 46151.Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements.
